Donatella Versace

FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION
Donatella Versace is the woman who  now owns Versace. Originally Versace belonged to her brother Giovanni "Gianni"until he died and left her 50% percent of his company. While he was alive, she was mainly apart of the public relations of his company, but was later considered his muse and critic. He also gave her her own perfume called "blonde" and her own inner line "versus."

Once she continued the line after his death, her style was a little bit different from what he was doing while he was alive. Her couture had a more modern look to it. it wasnt anything that women might actually wear out in public, but more for show . Later and more recently her work has been more ethereal and goddess looking. this gave the line a more approachable look and caught many peoples attention. alot of her work is worn by famous actresses and musicians on red carpets everywhere.

marina abramovic

hearing about marina really got me interested in her work. today in class mr zuccman mentioned that some of these artists are "on the edge." the fact that so many of these artists are on the edge makes them more interesting. when we were learning about the painters it wasnt anything new or exciting. However, once we got into the artists that ive never heard of, i was more interested right away.
Marina is definitely an artist that is on the edge. her performances are so crazy that i want to look all of them up in more detail.
Her rhythm 0 piece has to be my favorite of all of her pieces. in a video she did explaining this performance she mentions that she makes herself an object like all the objects on the table that people can use on her. i thought this was very interesting because for the longest time woman have been trying to show and almost prove that we are more than just objects in this society, we are equal to men. And now here is this artist who puts herself in that object category. this definitely made me think.
After looking at a few more of her pieces i realized that lowering her self wasnt part of the experience of her art, rather me just over thinking things haha :) her purpose was mainly to experience her body in every way, and being conscious while doing so. Marina is definitely an artist i will never forget!

STELARC

well when i first got my artist i thought it would have something to do with space and stars but i was verrrryyyyy wrong. Stelarc is an incredibly creative performance artist who has done many performances and all of his work has to do with the human body. from his website you can see that "He has performed with a THIRD HAND, a VIRTUAL ARM, a STOMACH SCULPTURE and EXOSKELETON, a 6-legged walking robot. His FRACTAL FLESH, PING BODY and PARASITE performances explored involuntary, remote and internet choreography of the body with electrical stimulation of the muscles." Stelarc has even done some art on second life, which is where he is currently performing.

Stelarc is originally from australia where he went to a few art schools, yet none of them fit his style of art.    it wasnt until he went to Japan, that he was able to express his art in a technological ways because they had the means to do so. Many of his public performances were suspensions. He only performed these suspensions in Australia, Japan, Europe, and USA.

this picture describes his theory perfectly. His theory is that like technology, our bodies need to continue  to  "upgrade" themselves so that they can continue to evolve. So, here he created a third arm that functions as exactly as his third arm. He says that our bodies can only do so much, but when technology is involved, our bodies can do so much more.

his main idea is that humans have created technology that has far surpassed our own physical capacity for storing and retrieving information.
