Donatella Versace

FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION FASHION
Donatella Versace is the woman who  now owns Versace. Originally Versace belonged to her brother Giovanni "Gianni"until he died and left her 50% percent of his company. While he was alive, she was mainly apart of the public relations of his company, but was later considered his muse and critic. He also gave her her own perfume called "blonde" and her own inner line "versus."

Once she continued the line after his death, her style was a little bit different from what he was doing while he was alive. Her couture had a more modern look to it. it wasnt anything that women might actually wear out in public, but more for show . Later and more recently her work has been more ethereal and goddess looking. this gave the line a more approachable look and caught many peoples attention. alot of her work is worn by famous actresses and musicians on red carpets everywhere.

marina abramovic

hearing about marina really got me interested in her work. today in class mr zuccman mentioned that some of these artists are "on the edge." the fact that so many of these artists are on the edge makes them more interesting. when we were learning about the painters it wasnt anything new or exciting. However, once we got into the artists that ive never heard of, i was more interested right away.
Marina is definitely an artist that is on the edge. her performances are so crazy that i want to look all of them up in more detail.
Her rhythm 0 piece has to be my favorite of all of her pieces. in a video she did explaining this performance she mentions that she makes herself an object like all the objects on the table that people can use on her. i thought this was very interesting because for the longest time woman have been trying to show and almost prove that we are more than just objects in this society, we are equal to men. And now here is this artist who puts herself in that object category. this definitely made me think.
After looking at a few more of her pieces i realized that lowering her self wasnt part of the experience of her art, rather me just over thinking things haha :) her purpose was mainly to experience her body in every way, and being conscious while doing so. Marina is definitely an artist i will never forget!

STELARC

well when i first got my artist i thought it would have something to do with space and stars but i was verrrryyyyy wrong. Stelarc is an incredibly creative performance artist who has done many performances and all of his work has to do with the human body. from his website you can see that "He has performed with a THIRD HAND, a VIRTUAL ARM, a STOMACH SCULPTURE and EXOSKELETON, a 6-legged walking robot. His FRACTAL FLESH, PING BODY and PARASITE performances explored involuntary, remote and internet choreography of the body with electrical stimulation of the muscles." Stelarc has even done some art on second life, which is where he is currently performing.

Stelarc is originally from australia where he went to a few art schools, yet none of them fit his style of art.    it wasnt until he went to Japan, that he was able to express his art in a technological ways because they had the means to do so. Many of his public performances were suspensions. He only performed these suspensions in Australia, Japan, Europe, and USA.

this picture describes his theory perfectly. His theory is that like technology, our bodies need to continue  to  "upgrade" themselves so that they can continue to evolve. So, here he created a third arm that functions as exactly as his third arm. He says that our bodies can only do so much, but when technology is involved, our bodies can do so much more.

his main idea is that humans have created technology that has far surpassed our own physical capacity for storing and retrieving information.

beale center

oh my goodness the beale center was definitely an experience. so krysta and i arrived at UCI around 4 pm. little did we know that this center would be sooooooo hard to find. we walked around the entire hour looking for this building . half an hour after getting there we decided to ask a student to help us find it. He asked alllllll of his friends and no one had heard of the beale center. boy was this a mission! well five minutes before 5 ( which is when it closes) we found it and ran in! and im sorry to say this, but we were pretty disappointed. we had gone through all that trouble to look at three pieces of blow up balloons that moved and lit up when you walked around them. ONLY THREE!!! we couldnt believe it but we looked at all of them, walked around all of them, and tried to figure out what they were. after snapping a few shots with them we were told the center was closing. i cant wait to read my fellow classmates blogs on this, to hopefully find some insight on what we looked at :) pictures will be up tomorrow

ahhhh

wheres the text on jeffrey?!?!?!

robert raushenburg

i was so surprised that robert wasnt one of those artists that grew up knowing he wanted to be an artist. As a child he wanted to be first a minister and then later a pharmacist. later when he joined the marines he realized how well he drew and then later after leaving the marines he decided to study art. his main love was for pop art, and hated abstract expressionists. because of this he tried many new ways of painting, and this later became what he was known for. he also termed a new form of his art. He called it "combines", these were meant to express both the  "finding and forming of combinations in three dimensional collage."

his pieces are definitely never boring. all of them have eye-catching colors, shapes, pictures, and designs. i definitely felt like he was putting his thoughts into his artwork. almost like a map of his brain in some cases, but i dont mean literally. my perspective of it is that it shows how crazy people think and how many different ideas we can process at one time.

who is this person?!?!?

alright so it was pretty easy to find some videos and pictures of comet morigi, but when i first started looking this person up, i wasn't even sure if it was a girl or boy!! But comet is a Japanese girl :)

Comet doesn't see "in-world" or "real life" she only sees them as being two types of realities. This to me is a littttttttle crazy, but she obviously loves it. From what ive read her sim is very life-like and even gestures as she talks.

Some of her landscape art is very different and is never at a site specific place.

this is the "sunken museum." she did this art piece as an instillation that doesnt exist anymore.
"She has sunken the museum INTO her environment work. That is a work NOT IN the museum."

another video :)

Comet Morigi was born and lives in Tokyo, Japan. (she tweated about being there for the earthquakes) Most of her work are environmental simulations, and are either really detailed or kind of dream like. She has been a resident in second life since 2007. I also found out that besides are she teaches japanese as a second language and wants to look into a translating sim service.

COMET! MORIGI!

SOooo far ive gathered a few things on comet morigi but havent really posted anything, ive been pretty sick. First ill start off by saying that comet is a second life artist. Like in many of his pictures comet shows what you see from a museum< not what you would see in one. Comet also has a few videos. Her art makes you look at things from a very different perspective. instead of looking at what is in front of you, you are forced to look beyond that and look around what is in front of you. In a few pictures ive looked at you see islands through the windows of a museum,or the ocean. Here are just a few pictures showing this

this next picture is of the meteorological observatory

comet describes that the red-black shows the density of the cloud cells.
im going to try to post some of the videos and hope it works

i LOVE......

my favorites :)

what i love about her art is that they talk about real life issues or atleast make you think about them. Everything is very bold and eye catching, so if you were to be walking down the street there is no way you would be able to miss her message, which is obviously what she wants.

her earliest artwork dates back to 1969

After making art for a few years she went to teach at Berkely to teach for four years , and then after she took up photography
During the early 1980s Barbara Kruger perfected a signature agitprop style, using cropped, large-scale, black-and-white photographic images juxtaposed with raucous, pithy, and often ironic aphorisms, printed in Futura Bold typeface against black, white, or deep red text bars

Walls, floors, and ceilings are covered with images and texts, which engulf and even assault the viewer.

this picture is probably my favorite, just because i know a few people who were in abusive relationships.

since the late 1990s, Kruger has incorporated sculpture into her ongoing critique of modern American culture.

OMG!!!!!

WOW!! what a drive!! so about half an hour ago i got back from LACMA. I left my house at 2:30. i was gone for around 6 hours and i def did not think it would take that long. Besides the insane LA traffic i def had fun!!! i was also super lucky to find parking right outside the gates in the back :) but anyways when i got there i immediately noticed the architecture. The building and the design was so fun! it felt like a day for exploring, which is pretty much what we did since there were three different buildings to go to.

This picture was awesome. Not only was it huge but there was so much that caught my attention. The bright yellow on the right with the flower is what my eye went to first, but looking at everything together was so much more appealing.

alright here were in a brown cave type thing. we werent really sure what it was but we walked allllllll around it and inside of it. it was fun for about two minutes :)

krysta trying to be like the wood guy

This was on the street  and we loved what it said so we took a picture ^^^

first little bit about my artist

This girl was SMART. Barbara Kruger attended Syracuse university for a year and then moved to New York to attend Parsons School of design. There she studied with fellow artists Diane arbus and Marvin israel, they introduced her to other photographers and fashion/magazine subcultures. This is where her interest in graphic design really started to develop. Later she worked and did almost everything. She was an art director, picture editor, and graphic designer ; she did magazine layouts freelance pictures, book jacket designs and so much more. ill post pictures later today :) no outlet and my computer is dying. look her up shes awesome
